The artist Ryszard Kaja created between 2012–2019 at the invitation of the Polish Poster Gallery in Wrocław an exceptional series of posters dedicated to the geographical and cultural diversity of Poland. With the courtesy of the Polish Institute in Bucharest, we are opening the first edition of Bucharest Graphic Days with an exhibition of 50 posters from this wonderful collection. Opening, Thursday, September 15 at 6 p.m. Facebook event here
A painter, stage designer, graphic designer and poster artist, Kaja began working as a scenographer for the most important opera and ballet theatres in Łódź and Poznań at the end of the 1980s. During the 1990s and early 2000s, he was one of Poland’s most-renowned stage designers.
As he was at the peak of his theatrical career, he began to develop an interest in posters, something he had until then only focused on sporadically. His posters (over 500 works in total) quickly won him international recognition. During the past decade, his POLSKA poster series was widely praised, achieving incredible popularity and a cult status, while he entered the pantheon of great polish poster designers.
